How To Spot A Dropshipping Scam

It’s unfortunate that one of the most important aspects of dropshipping today is knowing how to spot a scam. While the Internet has made it easier for dropshippers and wholesalers to connect and learn from each other, it’s also opened the gates for a slew of scams. It seems that as soon as one scam is wiped out, two more come and take its place. Unfortunately, the only way to deal with them now is to be informed about how they work and how to spot them ahead of time. Whether you are an experienced dropshipper or an amateur, it’s important to know what a scam looks like.

Check The Record

One of the biggest giveaways that a dropshipping supplier may be scamming is that they have no history. Fraudulent outfits simply can’t afford to stay around for too long. They operate in a very time-sensitive way. Like any kind of thief, their main objective is to get as much money as they can and then leave as quickly as possible. If you come across a company that seems to have just appeared and is offering deals that seem too good to be true, dig a little deeper. Scam outfits often set up shop like this overnight, complete with a simple website and a few disposable mobile phone numbers, but no track record.

But, what about dropshipping companies that are new but legit? It’s true that you won’t really be able to research a company’s track record if they have been in business for less than a year. In these cases, you will have to ask around. If the company is legitimate, they should have no problem in being open and honest with you about their track record so far. It’s also a good idea to check with the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been lodged against the supplier.

Check The Products

When it comes to dropshipping, it all boils down to the actual product. You may find a supplier that seems legit, but the final test will be in examining their products. After all, this is what you will be selling, and if the product isn’t good, it will affect your business. It pays to avoid any supplier that is overtly vague about the kinds of products they carry. If they say, “You can make a million dollars selling this product,” but offer no real description of it, it’s probably a scam. A good drop shipping supplier will be able to offer pictures as well as concise and clear product descriptions. They should also furnish you with samples.
The best way to check these drop shipping suppliers is to actually order a product. Check the quality, the delivery, the payment process, and overall customer service. These particular hints aren’t ways to simply spot a scam, but they are also helpful tips to find the best kind of supplier for you.
